In the ever evolving research on climate change, scientists think they have have found new, and ominous, data to support theories of a megadrought in the the US Southwest in the second century, driest stretch lasting for 25 years from A.D. 148 to 173.
Using “paleoclimatology,” or the study of the history of climate change using natural indicators like tree rings and mineral deposits, researchers are trying to piece together the history of the earth’s climate and how drastic a role humans have played in its most recent fluctuations.
Using centuries-old trees of the region, scientists think they have identified the megadrought era, and have begun speculating if there will be a round two; and if so, will it be worse than the last one?
