Recycling Receipts could be Dangerous

Try not to handle your receipts too much.

According to the New York Times Green Blog, a recent study shows that the chemical known as bisphenol-A (BPA) can be absorbed into your skin by just handling a receipt because of its presence in the ink.

Though they aren’t sure whether BPA is harmful to humans, scientists believe that it is a possibility because of adverse affects found in animals. It may be especially harmful to cashiers handling receipts on a regular basis.

But one of the biggest issues is that the recycling of receipts leads to contamination of other paper products, such as toilet paper. So we might be better off just throwing those into the trash.
