Quake Shakes New York Region

Epicenter of November 30, 2010 Earthquake

Yesterday, at 10:46am New Yorkers felt the shake as magnitude 3.9 earthquake rumbled the ground. The earthquake, which was centered in the Atlantic, 125 miles from New York City only lasted for about five seconds.

In a New York Times City Room Blog article, “Earthquake Off Long Island. I Felt It. Did You?” Richard Perez-Pena writes about the rumble mostly felt on Long Island. The earthquake, not a common occurrence in New York was the biggest one to hit in over 18 years.
