A Guide to e-Waste

We don’t blink when it comes to recycling cans, plastic and paper, but what about electronics? The NY Times ‘Green’ blog published a helpful post on where to send your dead gadgets without hurting the environment, and save some money while you’re at it:

  • Your local Apple store will take old iPods, plus you get 10% off a new one.
  • For used Macs, you have to go to Apple’s website to specify what kind of equipment you’re trying to get rid of, then PowerOn sends you packaging materials. It’s not only free to FedEx them your old computer, but you even get an Apple gift card for $70-80 per laptop.
  • In NYC, the Lower East Side Ecology Center and Tekserve, the Chelsea Apple superstore, have four collection days every year, or they will take your old computer for recycling when you buy a new one.

See the post for more tips on printer cartridges, cell phones and the like.
