Get A Head Start On Halloween

October starts this weekend, and that means one thing – well, I guess it means a lot of things, but for the child in all of us it means something special is only a month away: Halloween, and all the accoutrements that come along with it like pumpkin carving. Anyone who grew up near farms like I did knows the special thrill of cutting their soon-to-be jack-o’-lanterns straight off the vine in a pumpkin patch rather than picking one out of a sad little crate at the local grocery store. So indulge your inner child this year and head to Queens for a real suburban Halloween experience.

Pick a Saturday or Sunday in October and head to the Queens Community Farmhouse Museum to “enjoy wandering through the planting field to find your favorite pumpkin.” Price of the pumpkins depends on how big they are, so if you want to get your hands on one of those freakishly huge ones, bring the big bills… and a pickup truck, I suppose.
